The value of athletics in Welkom Secondary School is significant. Sekkies have their annual athletics day every year in the beginning. This is usual one academic day that the school takes in order to have the Athletics Day.

All our learners in the school have the opportunity to participate in this day.

On this day our learners and teachers are divided in two houses: Red and Blue House. Learners run against one another depending on their age groups. Teachers also get the opportunity to run against one another for fun.

The house with the most point wins the day.
